What is Reiki?

Reiki (“RAY-kee”) is a Japanese word meaning “spiritually guided life force energy.” It is a gentle, noninvasive holistic energy healing system that yields powerful results for the body, mind and spirit. It is believed that when the “life force energy” (AKA: chi) within the body is balanced, this often leads to improvements in health, increased relaxation, and improved well-being. Reiki can be used alone or in conjunction with any form of medical, psychological, or therapeutic treatment. A Reiki healing can be done in person or sent from a distance.

Why Get Reiki?

People use Reiki for relaxation, stress reduction, and symptom relief, in efforts to improve overall health and well-being. Reiki has been used by people with cancer, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, fatigue, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and other health conditions, as well as by people recovering from surgery or experiencing side effects from medical treatments. Reiki has also been given to people who are dying (and to their families and caregivers) to help impart a sense of peace.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki energy supports the body's innate healing abilities. Practitioners access this energy, allowing it to flow to the body and facilitate healing.

Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, removes energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. Reiki puts the client into a very relaxed and meditative state. This allows the bodies' energy to move freely. Reiki provides many of the same benefits as traditional massage therapy, such as reducing stress, stimulating the immune system, increasing energy, and relieving the pain and symptoms of health conditions.

What is Karuna Reiki?

Karuna is a Sanskrit word that means "compassionate action" or "compassionate action accompanied by wisdom." It is a term used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zen Buddhism.  Karuna energy above all else, carries with it compassion.

Karuna Reiki works with the same life force energy that is used in Reiki. Some believe it is simply a "higher vibrational form of Reiki."

When compared to Reiki, the healing energy is often described as "going deeper" and working quicker." However the energy is also described as "gentler."

Reiki, Christianity & Other Religions

Although Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion.  You do not have to hold particular beliefs or give up any of your current beliefs in order to receive a healing or in order to learn how to use Reiki.  You don’t even have to believe that Reiki works in order for it to be effective. As long as the healer is willing to serve as a channel of the “life force energy,” then the energy will flow through the healer and to the intended recipient.

What to Expect in a Reiki Session:

Distance/Remote Reiki:

Distance Reiki can be done several ways.  On the phone, where I describe what I'm doing while you relax or we can set a time for me to send healing to you when you're relaxing or sleeping.  Some people feel that Distance Reiki is stronger than in person because you're able to be more uninhibited and thus, more open.

1. Intention & Intake
We begin with a brief conversation where you share your current energetic state, any discomforts, or focus areas. This helps me tailor your session.

2. Energy Scanning & Chakra Assessment
Using intuition and energy perception, I scan your full energy field and check the alignment of your chakras. I note areas needing adjustment or clearing for proper energy flow.

3. Reiki Delivery (Usui & Karuna)
I send healing energy through both Reiki systems to bring flow and balance to your energy body. If your system is ready, deeper shifts may arise.

4. Intuitive Messages & Guidance
As the energy flows, insights and intuitive messages may emerge. I receive and share what comes through — always for your highest good.

5. Integration & Follow-Up
After the session, many clients benefit from gentle self-care, journaling. I also recommend drinking water afterwards.

In Person Reiki:  (Currently unavailable)

With in-person, I usually work in the auric field a few inches above your body. If hands-on is used, I ask permission prior.

What you may feel in a Reiki session:

  • Gentle warmth, tingling, or energy movement

  • A shift in the atmosphere

  • A sense of emotional relief or well-being

  • Peace

  • Clarity or increased focus

  • Nothing at all

If you don't feel anything, that's also okay, because the energy can be very subtle. The Reiki is still working for your highest good. You may however notice slight energy shifts or changes in the days that follow.

Each person and each session is unique. Often the benefits last a few days, weeks, months and sometimes permanently. I cannot guarantee specific results or how long they will last.

When should I schedule an appointment?

- Anytime where you can relax for 30 - 60 minutes.  You can be at home, asleep or anywhere you can relax uninterrupted.
