What is Reiki?

Reiki (“RAY-kee”) is a Japanese word meaning “spiritually guided life force energy.” It is a gentle, noninvasive holistic energy healing system that yields powerful results for the body, mind and spirit. It is believed that when the “life force energy” (AKA: chi) within the body is balanced, this often leads to improvements in health, increased relaxation, and improved well-being. Reiki can be used alone or in conjunction with any form of medical, psychological, or therapeutic treatment. A Reiki healing can be done in person or sent from a distance.

Why Get Reiki?

People use Reiki for relaxation, stress reduction, and symptom relief, in efforts to improve overall health and well-being. Reiki has been used by people with cancer, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, fatigue, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and other health conditions, as well as by people recovering from surgery or experiencing side effects from medical treatments. Reiki has also been given to people who are dying (and to their families and caregivers) to help impart a sense of peace.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki energy supports the body's innate healing abilities. Practitioners access this energy, allowing it to flow to the body and facilitate healing.

Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, removes energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. Reiki puts the client into a very relaxed and meditative state. This allows the bodies' energy to move freely. Reiki provides many of the same benefits as traditional massage therapy, such as reducing stress, stimulating the immune system, increasing energy, and relieving the pain and symptoms of health conditions.

What is Karuna Reiki?

Karuna is a Sanskrit word that means "compassionate action" or "compassionate action accompanied by wisdom." It is a term used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zen Buddhism.  Karuna energy above all else, carries with it compassion.

Karuna Reiki works with the same life force energy that is used in Reiki. Some believe it is simply a "higher vibrational form of Reiki."

When compared to Reiki, the healing energy is often described as "going deeper" and working quicker." However the energy is also described as "gentler."

Reiki, Christianity & Other Religions

Although Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion.  You do not have to hold particular beliefs or give up any of your current beliefs in order to receive a healing or in order to learn how to use Reiki.  You don’t even have to believe that Reiki works in order for it to be effective. As long as the healer is willing to serve as a channel of the “life force energy,” then the energy will flow through the healer and to the intended recipient.
